About

Colleen (Byrne) Henderson, a native of Shullsburg, bought The Copeland House on Water Street. For several years, I had been looking for a place in the Shullsburg area to purchase as a gathering spot for friends and family. The Copeland House had been for sale for several years, then…on Sunday, July 5, 2015 it went up for auction. Under the influence and encouragement of my family, I raised my hand and purchased the Copeland House. A couple brothers gave me quite the crazy woman look after the final “Sold!” The wonderful journey began!

My extended family, and they are abundant, have come together to help me fulfill my dream. For the past 2 years, we have been cleaning up the property—trimming trees, weeding, planting and landscaping. The interior has been painted, original wood flooring refinished and, the home has been furnished and decorated. I wanted the house to feel like home so there is a mixture of antique Victorian and contemporary furnishings. I call it ‘eclectic Victorian’!

The lovely home has four guest rooms—Wicklow, Amore, Namaste and Balleycreen. Each room has a comfortable queen bed, sitting area and its own bathroom with a walk-in shower.

The 3,100+ square foot home provides a warm, tranquil setting for guests. Copeland Guest House offers you a chance to unwind and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and a busy life. Relax and enjoy the warmth of the solarium; enjoy a great cup of coffee or tea on one of two beautiful and comfortable porches. Spend some time perusing the wide variety of books in the library. The library is furnished in memory of my husband, Dave, a brilliant erudite gentleman and bibliophile if there ever was one.

Enjoy an afternoon beverage and assortment of appetizers on the back veranda or in one of the gardens.

Evenings will allow guests to enjoy time outdoors sitting around one of two fire pits watching the stars.
